Melaka is gearing up for a lively Merdeka weekend this August, with free admission to selected tourist attractions, a star-studded pre-Merdeka concert and a three-day state-level National Day celebration taking place in Klebang.

As Malaysia prepares to celebrate its 69th National Day on 31 August 2026, the Melaka state government is offering visitors free admission to 13 selected tourism products as part of the celebrations. The initiative is aimed at welcoming both locals and tourists while expressing the state government's appreciation to those who choose Melaka as their holiday destination.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the free-entry initiative was a gesture of appreciation from the state government to Malaysians and tourists who select Melaka as their holiday destination.

1. Ambang Merdeka 2026: A Night of Music and Nostalgia

The Merdeka celebrations will begin in style on 30 August 2026, with Ambang Merdeka 2026 at Dataran 1 Malaysia in Klebang.

The pre-Merdeka celebration promises a night of nostalgia, music and patriotic spirit, featuring three major Malaysian artist performers:

The event starts at 8.00pm on Sunday, 30 August 2026, and is expected to draw families, friends and visitors looking to celebrate the eve of National Day together.

With the message “Malam sebelum Merdeka, jangan duduk rumah! Jumpa di Klebang!”, organisers are encouraging the public to head to Klebang and join the festivities.

2. Three Days of Merdeka Celebrations in Klebang

The wider 2026 Melaka State-Level National Day Celebration and Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Carnival will take place from 29 to 31 August 2026 at Dataran 1Malaysia, Klebang. This marks a shift in venue after two years of the celebration being held at Dataran Pahlawan, with organisers promising a longer and grander parade formation along the Klebang coastal stretch. 

The programme kicks off on 29 August with Melaka Berselawat, featuring congregational prayers, qasidah performances and a tausiyah session with Habib Syech Assegaf. The CIMIC Carnival officially launches on the morning of 30 August, with visitors able to catch a parachute demonstration, fighter jet flypast, helicopter air show and a special forces skills demonstration.

The celebration culminates on 31 August with the main contingent parade and march-past, a vehicle asset parade, ethnic and cultural performances, field events, creative showcases and a decorated float parade. Visitors can also expect an aerial salute flypast and further military demonstrations throughout the day.

The three-day programme will bring together the people of Melaka and Malaysians from across the country to celebrate National Day while strengthening the spirit of patriotism and unity. 3. Royal Malaysian Navy Ships to Dock in Klebang

merdeka melaka event Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh announced that Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) warships will dock in Klebang waters as part of the state-level National Day celebrations, marking the first time TLDM has lent its support to a Hari Kebangsaan event held in Melaka. The warships will be part of the wider Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) programme, one of 19 main activities running across the three-day celebration from 29 to 31 August.

Besides the warships, visitors can expect static displays of defence assets including artillery guns and tactical vehicles, along with military demonstrations such as Army Red Warrior, Guns In Action, unarmed combat displays, a K9 unit, silent drills and Commando Storm. A Heli Air Show, Aircraft Flying Pass, speedboat demonstrations and naval ship exhibits are also part of the lineup.

Interactive activities for the public include the Army Warrior Challenge and Survival Village, which showcases jungle survival techniques.

What Visitors in Melaka Need to Know

To accommodate the crowds in Klebang, around 2,000 seats are set up in the main public seating area, with additional free seating along the parade route. Visitors can park at 11 public locations offering close to 5,000 parking lots, with shuttle bus services running from designated parking areas.

Traffic control and road closures will be enforced according to schedule during rehearsal sessions and the main event, so visitors are advised to plan their journey to Dataran 1Malaysia ahead of time and follow instructions from officials and authorities on site.
